Which colour flowers would you put with hot pink?

You need something with different flower and leaf shapes, if it is all salvias, it will look very ragged. I would go for something more structural.

Such a valid point on the salvias, they do have a tendancy to look ragged don't they (although I have a bit of a salvia obsession!) so I need to remember about ground cover. Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions. I really like the ideas of the pale lilac geranium as it's purple (goes well with pink) but won't get lost against the fence colour and I've grown Gaura elsewhere in my garden this year and it did really well, so that's another great option, and cream mirage too. I notice that Sarah Raven mixes it with red (and purple) salvias and it looks lovely so maybe I'll be brave and not worry about the colour clash too! So many options to choose from now, thanks so much everyone.

I like mauvey-blue with hot pink, but maybe I have odd taste! Blue hardy geraniums, campanulas and so on.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • Yes I do too Jenny and I have lots of those elsewhere in the garden, the problem is that against the colour of the fence (which I really hate now, just because I'm so bored by it!) the colour really gets lost.

Can you paint the fence ? (Not being facetious, genuine question :) )
  • I would absolutely love to Anni (I have a fancying for a neutral sort of colour - I've bought several testers!) but it is a huge fence area and one side (mine!) is rotten and needs replacing entirely, so it's not a cheap job. I also got stuck on what I'd do with the ugly concrete gravel boards and posts...?
  • Some of the current fence paints also work well on concrete and other materials.  I used Cuprinol Garden Shades on my wooden fence and the concrete posts at each end - the posts are not noticeable now!
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

Yes it does well here @GardenerSuze
I find it needs lifting and dividing every couple of years to keep it vigorous and slugs/snails can be a big problem, but that aside it flowers for ages and they still have a few flowers left on them now.
