Bay Watch and Autumn surprise

Dear Member. I have this green shrub starting to grow, don't think it is Bay! Often see it as a large hedge on my travels, its leaves have a subtle silver sheen to them! The pretty little red flower is growing in my new garden. Any tips appreciated. : )
