Bay Watch and Autumn surprise

Dear Member.

I have this green shrub starting to grow, don't think it is Bay!  Often see it as a large hedge on my travels, its leaves have a subtle silver sheen to them!

The pretty little red flower is growing in my new garden.

Any tips appreciated.

I think the first is photinia. Not sure about the red flower, maybe potentilla?

    1. ??Eleagnus ebbingei.
    2. Potentilla, possibly Monarchs Velvet.

Second definitely one of the herbaceous potentillas.

Shrub.  I would go with Eleagnus ebbingii. The underside is very silver.   I know a garden on the North Cornwall coast where it makes a very sea tolerant windbreak to 3m.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.
