Hello @Lizzie27! How deep is deep? 3-4” is fine, but personally I wouldn’t go any deeper. As to position, I think that looks ok, but @Tack grows it and would know it’s habit better.
Mme. Antoine Mari still producing a succession of lovely blooms:
Avalanche Abricot ages to a soft pink:
Slightly odd Harlow Carr:
Semi-open WS2000, such a saturated colour that my camera doesn’t capture well:
Guy Savoy, huge blooms 5” across:
(Own root) Munstead Wood:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Alfie_@Nollie. Yes, moonlight is lovely. I have three together in a line to cover a new fence (at least two have survived. One is neglected). I wouldn’t at all call it aggressive; compared to the Randy Rector or Wedding Day it is demure. Certainly blooms through the season. It’s got a good bushy fence covering growth. I have it mixed with clem terniflora which makes for lovely mixed flowering in Sept/Oct.
I’ve had no real problems with Moonlight. A bit of blackspot but not bad. I got good growth upwards in the first year. I think the hover flies like it.
Pete’s is much large and more mature than mine. His recomm is why I got mine and I am thankful.
welcome @Alfie_ Totally aligned with Nollie , JC is a fantastic rose. Still disease free while the other plants are being covered in mildew etc. has bloomed the whole summer long . Regarding ramblers, Villa Borghese… looks like a beast ☺️. ( 900 cm high and 500 wide) yosemite falls but not clear if it repeats? I have guirlande rose what is now in the second year and also rather vigorous ( max height is 500 cm) Nevertheless I have combined with a once flowering rambler to opt for some change in color and flower … and hips in the 🍂
I have started some defoliating work but as long as it so warm the plants will not go fully into dormancy.
Looks like fine placement by the obelisk @Lizzie27, I am willing this to do well for you, mine is still blooming away unaffected by wind and rain.
@Nollie pupdates are seriously lacking but your roses are still gorgeous. I am glad I succumbed to WS200 but now I feel a need for GuyS too.
Somebody asked about Dark Desire which I've just checked is my Gräfin Diana which I recently gave away. Thinking about this rose makes me wonder why I got rid. I just love the foliage for the first half of the season when it is bronzy red. The buds and blooms are almost black moving on to rich red and beautifully formed. I think that it wasn't floriferous enough for me and the canes became ugly and very splayed. Given I had it in a pot and it is a thorny beast I wanted to make space for something else.
Oh that’s fine @Lizzie27, I would normally bury the graft about 2” below ground then add the same on top with mulch. Sloping beds can be tricky in terms of getting enough water down before it runs off!
Guy Savoy is a really healthy, trouble-free rose @Tack. It does have tall, upright growth with only blooms on the end so better at the back of a border/pot arrangement. If I had fence space I would espalier it like I’ve done with Soul to encourage lateral breaks. There is a pic on HMF of it grown over an arch. TW says it’s fragrance is ‘strong’ but I would describe it as ‘light’ at best.
OK, pupdate! Smudge is a very busy and fearless little girl, what with all those dates with people and other dogs, and, Spanish Water Dog style, has taken to training like a pro and swimming like a woolly duck. She coped amazingly well with busy Girona city and seemed to thrive on the chaos. However, she is still hounding poor old boy Bill out of his basket, hanging off his ears and stealing his toys. He’s stoic in the face of her onslaughts and beginning to fight back a bit when she gets out of hand, so there is hope for peace one day!

A fiesty, confident girl, well trained, will be a great pet and companion. I am so jealous. Hope Bill realises soon that pushing back consistently is the answer.
Crazy mild weather here and the roses aren't thinking of giving up.
It's just remnants of roses for me now, MW, (blooms maybe just squeezed together a smidge for artistic interpretation) Roald Dahl, (unsqueezed), these 2 would look good planted together I reckon and the last few flowers on the last cluster of GdF and that'll be it for this year here I guess

I tried to place the graft point about 2 inches under the soil level, slightly difficult on a sloping flower bed, so thanks for your reassurance.
