Hi @Pete.8 we have been thinking about new loudspeakers, ours were home made in the mid 70s . I am attached to them but I agree with OH that we ought to invest in something better. Care to share what you bought?
and yes, the song is wow. Not sure I want to listen to it again though 😰

Yes, I know what you mean about the song - not one to dance to! :)

    RE. the speakers

I've got a Naim Atom HE that powers a Naim NAP 250DR that I bought earlier in the years to replace my Naim NAC62/NAP140 that I've had for 35+yrs
I still have my KEF Reference 104.2 speakers and it's those I intend to replace.

I wrote an thread on the Naim forum yesterday summarising my thoughts -
    *********************************

They had 4 speakers lined up for me- using Atom and the new NAP250

    1. Wilson Benesch Precision P2.0 Floorstanding Loudspeaker
    2. Audiovector R 3 Arreté
    3. Focal Kanta 2
    4. Kudos Titan 606

    My thoughts

    1. WB 2
The speakers are narrow, but tall, deep and very heavy - they’re not going to look like part of the furniture.
The sound was impressive, detailed with a very much ‘right in front of you’ sound with plenty of punch.
Listening to Leonard Cohen ~ You Want It Darker - with eyes closed, he was right there just in front of me - staggeringly realistic.
A clear, crisp, very detailed and live sound

    2. R3 Arrete
Good looking speakers and a really good sound.
Solo piano sounded more natural to me than the WB, but orchestral music was not as detailed and instruments not so precisely located as the WBs and Leonard Cohen was not quite in front of me.

    3. Kanta 2
I was disappointed, but these speakers are about £4k cheaper, so not really a fair comparison. My fault - I should have asked to demo the Kanta 3’s, but they weren’t to hand.

    4. Titan 606
Much smaller than I was expecting.
Solo piano sounded very natural and it was a rounded and well-defined sound.
More so than the Arrete I thought.
Orchestral music was not as crisply defined as the WB but there was a roundness to the sound that I didn’t get with the other speakers.

The two I really liked are the WB P.20 and the Titan 606 and are almost identically priced.
Titan 606 - I think these would be easy to listen to for long periods and have a lovely sound.
WB P2 - it’s like being in the front row

    *********************************

I've since spoken with the dealer this morning and they've agreed to let my try the 2 that I really liked at home for a few days each to help me to decide :)

Thank you for taking the trouble to write down all that, I appreciate it and going to pass the info on to OH, but our budget is a way lower.  🙂

That's OK I wrote it for another forum, so it was just a copy/paste.
With any speakers it's always best to listen to them first, and any decent dealer will let you do that.
A really good place to look is on dealer sites for ex-demonstration and pre-owned.
It'll cost 1/2 the price of new.

This came on my Bobby Womack playlist (sounds like an oxymoron eh...has he had more than 1 song?) - apt for the weekend. I like the end where there's a Speedy Gonzalez Banana Boat song bit with Stevie Wonder...back a bit man...

  • Not sure whether to put this here or on the Curmudgeon’s thread, but for any of you that are interested in ‘behind the scenes’ … this is a large part of my son’s job, and he says it’s a pretty accurate representation of most sound men’s approach to their work … thought it might make @punkdoc smile at least …

Loved it, reminded me of nights in Cornish pubs.
