When I was in my teens in the 60s I listened to pop music all the time, Beatles, Hollies etc. When I married and started having babies I preferred folk music and country and western, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell etc. Then I liked classical, Beethoven, Elgar etc. Now, oh dear, I like silence and birdsong. My elderly ears find noisy music very muddling and I can't concentrate. If there are other sounds when I'm talking to someone I can't understand what they are saying. I still like classical though I prefer lovely tunes like "Ode to Joy" and Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream to noisier music like Stravinsky's Rite of Spring or Wagner.

And this is supposed to be low brow music? Brought me to tears the first time I heard it live at Hitchin Folk Club.
