I gardened in Belgium for 25 years.  Almost as much rain as the Lake District but for some plants and my pots I had a watering system in place for when I went on hols in summer because heatwaves were possible.

Mind you, there were no hosepipe bans.   Might be different now tho it's only 6 years since we left.

I still haven't watered my garden but I did summon up the energy to keep my patio plants alive and have managed to avoid feeling smug about it. @gohunteroGDYUR8a
    In London. Keen but lazy.

I would guess not a watering system for two acres.

No, just for things that would die without it tho yes, we did have 2 acres. And a half.

That said, I don't understand why Monty doesn't have some sort of watering system in place.
Agreed. Before now, backin the 80's we have used bath water, with a hose pipe as a syphon to get it down to the garden! Where there is a will, there is a way!

It shows how easy it is to judge without having a clue about the back story.

Could it be because most years he’s gardening in flood conditions, not drought?
Yes, that's possible, but us gardeners should be flexible enough to change our tactics in order to be in line with the current climatic changes/requirements. Some years, we just let God water the plants, and others, we have to intervene and provide additional water.

You obviously didn't read the whole post from Obelixx!
  • And some of us live off grid and even had to buy in drinking water!
Nearly all of my plants have survived,  though I only watered pots and one or two recently planted things.
