Wild strawberry/ potentilla confusion

Am I right in assuming that potentilla don't ever spread by runners ? When weeding, the seedlings are easy enough to identify, but it's much harder with the more mature plants. To make it even more difficult, I dotted small potentilla plants at random all over the garden last year. Many have flowered so I can distinguish…
