I took all my camera gear on holiday last week and on the one day that I decided not to bring it along I saw this pure white sparrow sat on a fence. It helpfully kept out of range of my phone's camera too so this was the best shot I got of it.
I don't think that's a House Sparrow. Where was the picture taken?
Thurlestone nature reserve in south Devon. It was flocking and dust bathing with about 30 other normal coloured house sparrows. When they were sat side by side on the fence it was more obvious. The terrible photo isn't helping.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
I think sparrows strip my apple of buds too. But it might just be my bad gardening.
I love them of course but here they are little buggers. They rip the emerging leaves off our black bamboos. They haven't always done it because the original plant bulked up beautifully but now the whole flock is in there regularly and the clump looks really untidy. I thought we'd got away with it on another plant but they seem to have discovered that one as well
