Help identifying this flower from Culzean Castle?

  • Hello, and thanks for all the feedback. Unfortunately, this is the only other photo I have of the plant. I was so taken by the flowers, that I didn't get the leaves in very well. As I recall, this was taller than my waist, so I'd say at least four feet tall?

I wish I had a better picture! I think that's why the plant identifier apps have had a difficult time with it. It does seem to be most likely Rodgersia. It was, I recall, in a part of the garden that had many exotic plants--tree ferns and the like, though it didn't seem like it was a damp or boggy garden. It seems some form of Rodgersia is the likely suspect.

Thanks! I hope to turn my boring lawn filled backyard into a proper British garden!

Maybe contact the Nat Trust at Culzean Castle and ask them. The Nat Trust staff are usually pretty helpful with stuff like that.

  • Looking again at my photos, I realized that I had a photo more in context. It's the plant in the middle of the zoomed in picture. I wish it had better resolution, but perhaps this will help!

    Thanks again!
