It seems Cornwall was very hit and miss. Flash flooding in Truro, not that far away from me. The dog was beside himself with fear as the thunder rumbled on and off. We had a couple of torrential downpours but the next day was devine. Soft gentle rain for most of the day, and cooler! You could hear the plants and ground sucking up the moisture, I have several dustbins sited around the garden as well as a rain butt but none of them are full yet. It was lovely to walk the dog and be able to breathe. My veg. seedlings have doubled in size in 48 hrs. Must get the slug pellets out before the slugs and snails come out of hiding.
Just started raining here!! I was in London when it poured down for almost two hours yesterday, got home to Kent to find we'd had virtually nothing.
Well that turned out to be one of two light showers lasting less than 10 minutes. Had one 5 minute shower today. Still no meaningful rain since before the big heatwave. Apparently we might get some next week.
"My hasn't it rained,"after the drought it has rained steadily for weeks, though no flooding here.
I have 13 water butts, all are filled up, one is now overflowing with surplus water, 4, are 50 gall about 190 lts the others all 45 gall about 170 lts, some are inter connected, 2 of the 50 galls one filled up from empty last weekend.
I dug out the last 2 potato sets this weekend, the soil is perfect (damp) 2 spade depths down, I always double dig when lifting the potatoes, one to cultivate the soil, the other to try not to leave any tubers, to sprout a few weeks later, they then are a pain to dig out!
Saying we had no floods here, there are two no dig peoples plots about 40 metres away, both have lying water on them yesterday, both say everyone else is doing it wrong, except them, just shows!
Sunny Quedgeley, just outside Gloucester, Gloucester and other towns on the Severn only get flooded when those lovely Welch people send their surplus water down the Severn River each year!
Try putting Gloucester on your signature @Braidman. It helps a both for answering questions you may ask and also assessing the relevance of your answers to others re soil, climate etc.

I have two strawberry plants in little pots, when it rained they grew about 3 inches!
