Thank you, @Dovefromabove. I will move one as soon as possible. Would a clematis type pot be suitable until spring?

Thank you, @Liriodendron. That’s an interesting idea. I think there are some white echinops out there… I don’t know much about them.

They’re certainly one of the plants that still look alive in my very dry garden at the moment

@GardenerSuze - there's one called Arctic Glow.  (Edited to say - I think it's a different species from the common one though.)  I've never grown it though - just got the standard blue E.ritro, grown from seed, ready to plant out.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

@Liriodendron I do seen to recall seeing a white form years ago. I think the blue is probably more popular.

@GardenerSuze yes there is a white form. I have it growing in my garden but don't recall the name. It seeds itself like crazy but the bees love it. Not the most attractive looking, the blue is more pleasing on the eye. Loves my poor dry soil so I always leave a patch to grow.

@joanna65 Yes, I think I would say a dirty white for want of a better description. Echinops leaves can also be a bit scruffy bu tthe blue flowers are lovely.
