Hellebore flowering in July!

Hi all, has anyone else come across Helleborus niger "Christmas Carol" beginning to flower at the end of July?? From what I can find on the web, it says it flowers Dec-March. Is this just a small first flush or will it continue to flower until March now? If it does, how wonderful!

Mine started flowering again at the end of July too. Strange! No idea how common/uncommon it is though

I have known hellebores send out an odd flower  out of season.Think it is probably more common with niger at this time of year as they flower just that bit earlier.

  • I saw a Magnolia in bloom the other day, second time this year.
  • Mine has just put on a second flush, smaller than the first. New to most garden things anyway, so didn't know that was unusual. I'll have to check type tomorrow.

Magnolias do sometimes put out one or two flowers in the autumn; lots of spring flowering plants can. I suppose when the light and temp sink again the flowers don't know if they are coming or going.

My winter flowering clematis freckles has had quite a few flowers for the last month or so but the Christmas roses are hanging in there rather than showing off.
  • The flowers on mine are also smaller than the ones in winter/spring @Heartinthedirt

@creatorofsmores92pVRibGZg Slightly different but I have got a border full of Cosmos Rubenza, the drier the conditions have got the smaller the flowers have been. Could be why?
