Good Morning Rubee sorry I missed your post before, hope you’ll have a chance to play in the garden today, LB Just don’t get too stuck in to the job 😁 Ante I will be going to school on the 02nd September for safeguarding training, then school duties start on the 05th. Will you have any more breaks from school?
I do feel your pain Ante - we have still had no rain - none of the thunderstorms or deluges enjoyed by the rest of the country. Areas less than 20 miles away had over 60mm on Thursday - but we had less than 1mm. The spots didn't even join up on the garden table. We're always too far east, west, north or south for the showers.
OH is away karting this weekend up near Cockermouth in Cumbria. He has been complaining how cold it is (about 14C and he's been wearing jacket and woolly hat) and how wet it is. Apparently his new waterproof trainers aren't and he's now on his third pair of socks! The difference in weather between the NW and the SE was mentioned on the news last night. It's like we live in different countries.
Hope you enjoyed your party BL. I hate posh do's and dressing up but I'm sure it was fun to catch up with friends etc.
Chive - welcome home! I hope your holiday was every bit as good as it sounded / looked. I'm glad Nell has forgiven you and reestablished her routine. Cats really do have their own special body language don't they?
Glad SGL's and Rubee's OH's are feeling better with the cooler conditions. I still need no more than a single sheet over me at night but it is starting to feel a bit cooler first thing in the morning.
Think I shall do some dead heading and block up a hole in the fence today. I think it's where the muntjac is accessing the garden. I wouldn't mind so much if he didn't eat all the rose buds and blooms on the new roses!
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Chive mum will have been delighted to see you and catch up. LB glad you won your battle with the garden. It’s Sunday have some relaxation with Lily. I’ve been doing some h*******k and pottering. Ante enjoy your rest and I’ll join you and Lily with some tea. Top bird enjoy your day.
Sorry @Ante1 - we had a torrential deluge last night. As I heard it bouncing down, I remembered that there were still a few cloths on the line and I'd probably left the garden waste bin lid open Got a bit damp rectifying all that
Hi folks, Stayed at Firstborn's last night as they had a party for SIL's birthday. Drank and ate a little too much so woke with a bit of a headache. I'm OK now and back home. Have just watered the pots as I didn't do them yesterday. It's cloudy warm and dry here so don't think it will do the plants any harm. Have loads of toms ready to pick in the greenhouse and more cucumbers, they have been great this year. Hope everyone enjoys their day.
Afternoon everyone, Thank you it’s nice to see you Topbird, what a torment this rainfall has been for you 🤬 Hope OH is enjoying the karting in Cumbria despite the damp feet & socks. Hope you manage to prevent the deer from making any further visits through the fence. I meant to say that I took your advice and chopped back our climbing Jasmine to the ground and boy it has really taken off! Rosie Hope the h****work is all done now, time to relax and enjoy the afternoon 😊 Biglad Its that moment of realisation when you hear rain & then remember what’s been left out 😳 An open car window comes to mind 🫤 Hope you all enjoy the rest of the day.
Good afternoon everyone. Big Lad I left my gardening cardigan out in the rain in Spring . I had forgotten all about it .When I went to get it ,it was so wet it had stretched to nearly twice it’s length with the weight of rain.Yvie good you are feeling better . Enjoy your veggie picking. Chive it’s good your jasmine has taken off .Agood cutting back does the trick. TBird enjoy your deadheading .
I hope filling the hole in the hedge won’t be too hard.I have transplanted 2 small bushes and done some clearing up . I am a messy worker . Time for a cuppa and a book . Enjoy the rest of your day everyone .
Good afternoon everyone. I am finished in the garden for today because I'm cream crackered (no, not even thought about the pond!). I have cut back two very thorny roses that have been striving to tear me to pieces every time I work in that stretch. I am going to move them right to the bottom of the garden where they will either survive or fail - can't bear to just throw them away. I noticed that my autumn flowering cyclamen are starting to unfurl their flowers. They look super. Spot the bee having a real feast in one of my cardoons:

Well done Ruby on getting your shrubs moved today.
Ante, it is so hard to believe you are back at school tomorrow!
T'Bird, it must be so frustrating to have rain relatively close and literally getting a few spots! I like Cockermouth, birth place of William Wordsworth. The last time I visited there it was with the group of ladies known as the Connie (Coniston) Crew. A gang of teachers including my sis and friend from Crewe. It was friend from Crewe's birthday and we made her wear one of those hats that looks like a birthday cake complete with candles, all day. That was one of the more reserved things we did when unleashed in the Lake District.
Good to see you Rosie. Go easy with the h*******k though. Too much of that can make you ill
Biglad - how very dare the laurel bush encroach on your fruitery! Off with it's head!
Yvie - a bit late but I hope you are now recovered from the over- indulgence. I will be doing some watering myself later as some plants are flagging a bit.
Ruby, I remember that incident with your cardigan!

Pleased to see yesterday's results:-

I'll be having a hack at a laurel bush in the not too distant future as it is trespassing on a designated fruit-producing area, the cheeky beggar!
