I have this Hydrangea 'Blacksteel Zebra', in a north-facing border which is backed by the house wall, so is fairly sheltered. The soil is clay and always damp. It is a beauty with white flowers and black stems. This year it has fairly increased in size. I will be cutting it back after the flowers have finished, though they do last for several weeks, probably until September. I purchased it from a local GC a few years ago. It has not been pruned apart from wayward stems and has had no feeding or any attention! It is great to see the huge variety of hydrangeas and the various colours. Thanks to all.
The photo is one of cuttings I took from my blue hydrangea bush which must be at least five years old. The cuttings as you can see have turned out pink and I can only assume that has happened as I didn't pot them up in the same soil that the mature plant was growing in. Had hoped to have more blue hydrangea bushes.
