What a gorgeous day! Very happy to note that the lobelia Victorias that were looking a bit sorry for themselves have perked up after a really good drink yesterday. Have been looking at Marlorena's thread with lots of lovely pics of vibrant and full border edges. So wish I could get mine like that. Instead I have - bare bit, bit that's overgrown and sprawly, bit that's gone over, bit where something has self-seeded, bit that was all right last year but is looking sorry for itself this year, bit that is doing OK but not quite the right colour... broken concrete path with weeds in it, stacks of empty plastic pots, weedy seedlings that just aren't amounting to much... My garden always seems to be 'work in progress'. And more plants to go in... Off to Urban Jungle in a bit.
Yes we are very good at looking after our workmen, @Dovefromabove. Moira usually does some baking. I always remember, if I was traveling to give a talk, it was so nice if you were greeted with a drink and a bit to eat before you started.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Evening all, what a beautiful day here, with just enough breeze to not feel too hot. Busy, but steady away. Apricot cake proved popular, served it warm with apricot coulis and crème fraîche.
Have a glass of wine in hand as I wait for a man to arrive and remove a wasps n'est. The nest is amazing, but the wasps are the biggest and blackest I've ever seen. So far they've just been focused on the nest, but they'll have to go, just above the far end of the terrace.
I'm pretty sure all our gardens are work in progress @didyw, I'm very good at taking close up photos or ones with blurry edges to hide the less than perfect bits.
Off to a restaurant later, although to be perfectly honest I'd be happy to just relax here with my wine, more and more enjoying my own company, probably because I'm surrounded by people all day long.
Good news for Charlie, he has been recommended by an existing 'client' and has been asked to mow another garden in our nearest village, that's four now he does and he's very proud of his work, spends a lot of time when we're in the car commentating on the state of people's lawns. His clients are all old ladies and absolutely adore him. His earnings are adding up nicely now. He started reading his 1st book too. We Were Liars, E Lockhart, to be followed by Agatha Christie Then There was None.
Ooh, man has arrived, I'll offer him a drink first. 😅

Evening all, now back home after a lovely weekend at son & family's house in Bournemouth. We all went out to dinner last night to celebrate both grandchildren's birthdays and my forthcoming one. Good pub/hotel but a trifle disappointed at restricted menu, good if you like burgers, 8oz steak at £30 and I ended up with fish & chips. The fish was extremely nice however. OH and I shared an Eton Mess but again too much cream and very little merangue. It's just hit 30.4 here and I'm melting, dinner tonight might just be a chicken or cheese sandwich! Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.
Bournemouth (Southbourne end) Beach about 10.30 am this morning. We managed to get the last disabled car parking place! Blue badge is such a blessing. OH really enjoyed his swim, his hip doesn't pain him so much in the water.
Nice to read back on people's comments. Congratulations @D0rdogne_Damsel on Charlie's success - a hard road ahead. Such competition in the world of education these days. A member of my family who is in the final year at school is already putting out applications for universities in September 2023. And the bar is high. So much has changed.
It is very hot down here. 38°C is not pleasant. Expected for the next week at least. No respite. Gardening and early morning walks before 9.30am is on the agenda. Perhaps a bit of housework after that but the house has to be shuttered up by 10.30/11am to keep the cool in. Watering in the evening after 8pm. Isn't it ridiculous? We freeze in the winter, but have to keep ourselves inside in the summer afternoons. Good for tourists, though as the days are perfect beach days.
I love reading all your exploits - mine are minimal - just chilling!!

I’m in @tui34’s team of ‘minimal exploits’ though 😂
Enjoyed the tennis, particularly the men’s wheelchair final. I’ll be following that sport again - so skilful and impressive.
