I'm assuming something like Nicotiana alata, not the stuff you smoke.

The leaves should be slightly furry/fuzzy and a bit lighter green than that (unless the photo has distorted the colour?) - at least they are on the varieties I grow (alata and sylvestris). Also, if you touch them they should be a bit soft and floppy, not robust.

Ah Ok thanks borgadr, the leaves are not furry/fuzzy at all. The colours are pretty much as the photos.
I'll miss them as I love the smell of the flowers.

I'm still finding seedlings from mine, have a good look where your previous plant grew.

I compost nicotiana, cosmos and Verbena bonariensis at the end of the season. When my friend had a new house, she had the contents of one of my compost heaps. She had an entire border full of seedlings of the above three. Thinned out a bit, they made a lovely border all on their own.  That compost heap obviously didn't get hot enough.

I I planted nicotine my first year living here, six years on it’s still popping up every year…. I swear last year it was all white but this years crop is a lovely selection of pinks and purples…. Seeds get everywhere.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

I need to look up what they look like when they are very tiny and just coming through. I hope I haven't been weeding them out.
