Is clary sage related to the ones we are discussing? A useful plant you don't see much of.

    In London. Keen but lazy.

None of my bushy salvias get much slug attention, although the Blue Note is in quite a high raised bed. Does anyone's shrubby Ss get slugged?

Not the woody ones, but I had a purple one which got demolished, despite being in a copper bound pot! It decided to opt out this year, but the dry twigs still have roots on, and I live in eternal hope.

My favourite is Salvia nemorosa "Caradonna", because of the dark blue, compact spires and its constant bee visitors!  I find it associates well with dark leaved plants like Sambucus:

A recent acquisition (which I was a bit nervous about!), has kept its place in a mixed border with Verbena Bampton, Dahlia Totally Tangerine and Lavender.  It has nice lime green leaves which smell like black currant - yes it's Salvia Amethyst Lips!

    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

This is my sprawly Nachtvlinder - in the wrong place. Planted last autumn. There is Blue Note at either end. There is no rich soil in the planter and I'm surprised it's splatted so much. Blue Note has been sprawled over. This is the sunniest spot in the garden.

I will try to prune them back in August but I think both will eventually move to a bigger space.

@Plantminded Just wondered if you could tell me about deadheading S. Caradonna please. Is it possible to keep it going all summer?
Saw Pink Caradonna at the G C today only a small plant. Not sure if it will be as popular as the stems are a plain green.
Salvia Amethyst Lips what a beauty!

Thanks so much everyone for posting these photos - they all look fab and it's helping me to decide what to do with some of mine. I got a bargain batch on the last day at Hampton Court last year - £1 each - and while I've placed a few (and already had a couple), seeing them in different combinations with comments about their differences from each other is really helping me.

Edited to add a photo of my bog standard herb Salvia officinalis (with hardy geranium and Spirea). It's a great foil for other plants and we cook with it a lot too!

@LG_ Lovely to see Salvia officinalis doing so well, I am sure it has enjoyed the recent heat. Not very happy with me other than in a pot.
