Like @Uff my chimney pot has a Vinca planted in a pot. The trick is to find a plastic pot that fits securely, but not so tight that you can't get it out if you need to.
That plant has an interesting history in England the flower of death.
@BenCotto is your erigeron chimney pot completely full of soil?
Hi Fire. No, it’s 3/4 filed with rubble such as polystyrene chunks, old bricks etc and then a weed blocking membrane was put on top, a piece of Terram offcut. The growing medium was a mix of what was in the garage - JI #3, MPC, grit, slow release fertiliser. Because this chimney pot had a louvred top I put a wrap of DPC membrane, also in the garage, around the top to stop soil and water falling out.
Some people fill the chimney pot with soil and treat it like a baseless pot, which I would like to try one day. Some just put a pot in the top, which I do at the moment, because I have a narrow garden and want to move the chimney pots around all the time - out of the way.
Yes, mine's on a path and I have to move it occasionally (trimming holly, cleaning path etc). Also I just haven't got enough spare of anything to fill it up!
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
In my other chimney pots I have snug fitting plastic pots, some sitting on top of some cut to size recycled plastic drain pipes. I have winter pots filled with hellebores and summer pots currently filled with bedding plants though when the photo below was taken they had geraniums, Rozanne (back) and Azure Rush (front).
I also go for pots in the the chimney pots (if you can find one that fits snugly) - handy because you can chop and change. I have Erigeron in mine now, and in late winter I swap it out for a pot of Iris reticulata bulbs
In my head, this is going to be a blanket of Red Velour in a month’s time. Mind you, I have set myself a challenge because it is a NW facing wall and the petunias were some of the runts from the cutting tray. Even so, the progress since photo 2, taken on May 21st has been good and I hope the plants will be clambering up and through the supports I have provided.
Had a look round a few garden centres local to me and none have any Erigeron karvinskianus in stock one lady worker advised me to order online as she had the same problem.

Used to have a tall grass growing in it but it's now a very convenient place to store all our canes
I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
We found the sea breeze version.
