I'd take the lower branches off the rowan to just above the height of the wall. It will still give the birds somewhere to perch. I can't tell what the shrubs are, a closer pic would help members to give some advice, need to see the leaves and flowers. I think the one on the right is Chaenomeles and the one on the left is possibly a Philadelphus but not sure.

I think the one on the extreme right is a red Weigela,  I agree with Uff about the others.

Yes   on the right Old fashioned Wiegelia, left of that out grown Cotoneasta, sorry if spelt wrong  and to extreme left Mock Orange. Some how all need to be tamed and how and when, please.

When the Weigela has finished flowering, you can cut it back by a third.
I think the cotoneaster can be pruned back reasonably hard, but there are several different types. This may help.

  • Than you  , there are a lot of new shoots lower down on Wiegelia   so that's good,  Cotoneasta the same. THE Mock Orange is all growth high above wall, lovely white flowers at this time of year, is that right , should it be lower and bush like.It does flower well in the 5 years I have known it.

Usually you would just prune it back lightly after flowering, then next year's flowers appear on the growth it has made since.
You can hard prune it, but it will mean that you won't get flowers next year.

Yes it is the mock orange  :)
  • Ok looks like I have to bite the bullet as they say!
  • Trying to drop in a pic.
Ok managed that, as you or anyone can see there is quite a void below the wall, I thinking if I can prune down to that height then I hope to bring the bush to flourish from there, am I right, please?
