Sorry- you posted at the same time as I did there. That will have done more harm than good at this time of year, but as long as there's some grass there, it'll recover with the rain.
Apart from mowing, nothing, has been done to that garden in 16 years. I can get a hose and that. I don’t mind spending money; but it’s only 50 sq metres so I don’t want to go overboard.

I'd just wait for the rain. It'll recover then. I never water grass here, but it isn't really necessary anyway in the west. Even in dry spells [which we do get!] it just seems a terrible waste of resources.
A hose is very useful though - for all sorts of things. They're fairly inexpensive, unless you want some high falutin', bells and whistles type  ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I have a trowel, fork, gloves and a watering can. I would like a partly wildlife thing going on so I could get an outside tap and a sprinkler if water is the way to go.

Warmth, water and light are the things grass needs most in order to thrive.  An outside tap is very useful   :)
It'll recover with some rain. Then you can decide what else you want to have in the plot.

Is rain better than tap water in gardens??!?

Yes - always. That doesn't mean you cant use tap water though - especially for grass  :)

  • Thanks for your help @FairygirL it’s been invaluable. I shall make water my priority then. Pics to follow.
