What is this ?

I seem to have planted a couple of these last year and they have now spread which I am happy with. Sadly the wooden name tags have disappeared.  I do try to keep a check on what's planted on a crude map  but these dont seem to appears. Any ideas ?  Thanks

I’d say Lysimachia too. Years ago when Carol Kline still ran her nursery and showed at flower shows I bought L. Firecracker. My word what a runner it turned out to be. In open areas it’s easy to remove but when it mingles with other perennials it can be a bit of a devil.

It doesn’t look like perilla to me which you can also tell by its fresh herby smell.

  • Lysimachia Firecracker rings a bell and it has spread quite widely in one year so I reckon that's it. I will now add it to the map !  Thanks

I'm waging war on the yellow Lysimachia at the moment. You could just paint the whole map brown and save your time!
  • You reckon its that dangerous ?  I only(?) have about, just recounted, 14 firecrackers sprouting up now. Sure there were only five a week ago. How do you control them ?

Basically all you can do is keep digging them up. Mine spread into the lawn, where eventually they wee wiped out by constant use of the lawnmower over time.
The trick is to start early and pull as much root out as you can every time you spot it.
