Cuckoo

There is a small wood near to my garden and yesterday I heard a Cuckoo. I wondered if it was a little late in the season. Some years ago I actually saw and heard one fluttering from one tree to another. 
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    Haven't heard a cuckoo so far this year, though I usually catch it calling at least once. Last year I 'sort of' saw one, when it was calling from the middle of our big pussy willow.  :)

    Until they have mated, they will call. I suppose with less and less coming to this country, it will take longer to find a mate.

    I'm still hearing them here .... and heard one when walking in Northumberland last week.
    Would love to see one, but there's usually too much tree cover.

    Thankyou everone . Many years ago OH took a photo of a bird sitting on a fence in the open, it was August. A friend later confirmed it was a Cuckoo.

    Cornwall cuckoos are still calling quite frequently at the moment. I saw one fly across my garden a couple of years ago, I was surprised at how big it was.

    The BTO has a cuckoo tracking project which is worth a look https://www.bto.org/our-science/projects/cuckoo-tracking-project You can press play on the tracker and view their movements back and forth to Africa through the seasons. It's sad to see the ones that go inactive though.

    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Only yesterday evening as my husband was taking trays of plants out of the car as we do car boots he came in the bungalow and said he'd heard a Cuckoo ! and that's in South Wales surprise surprise .
