Three mystery plants

buddyandmorsebuddyandmorse Posts: 129
Dear members.

Three challenges.  All taken in May in my front garden.

The grass is I think an ornamental grass but no idea of its name?

The tree with yellow leaves is 5 foot tall?

The little black bush!  Is a rare one, never seen it before?

At the top you have Carex pendula

    In the sticks near Peterborough

Then I think a Yellow Cotinus

Then Sambucus nigra, possibly 'Black Lace' but there are many similar cultivars

The last plant looks like sambucus nigra, Black Lace

That carex is a nightmare if it seeds around.
Agree with the other 2 IDs, although there are quite a few dark Sambucus, all fairly similar   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Yes, sedge - pull the seed heads.
It seeds everywhere and grows very thick and compact, fast. Luckily it's easy to dig out if you want to.
  • Definitely black lace tree I have one  :)

Thank you for that, sounds better than "big grass"  : )
