I don't know about other people but I just don't like the red and white together (or the other "lips" something-and-white combinations). Nothing wrong with them, they're just not to my taste. I like the single colour shrubby salvias and they seem to like the conditions here, so I grow quite a few different ones, but the "lips" ones just don't appeal.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
That's the thing about gardening @JennyJ, if we all liked the same thing it would be boring I have lots of salvias and must admit that Hotlips isn't a favourite, but my plant has sentimental connections so l couldn't get rid of it 😊.
After seeing @Fire hot lips hedge , I just had to have it. I have not regretted it. Last year it went through the three colour changes, and because I like bi coloured plants fits in well. It was cut back to the ground in spring, and is now 45cm tall with red flowers, can't wait for the next colour change. 😁
Mine usually starts red, then goes red and white and finally white only but this year it looks like this. I think this is because I didn't get round to cutting it back in the spring.
Liking or disliking plants is all about personal opinion, I expressed mine. [ I think having an opinion is still allowed ] Can't stand red and white bi coloured flowers.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I have to defend the hot lips, mine is absolutely amazing, grows like nobody's business, attracts tons of bees and looks so beautiful! It got me a passion for woody salvias too. I adore them!
I love them! I pass one nearby, always looks lovely and healthy, and I intend to make space in my garden for one. What I’m not keen on are pale pink roses, very popular but look really insipid to me. Each to their own taste, and luckily plenty to choose from.

I love roses - just not in my garden, ever, so I'm kind of with you there.
I just think it's somewhat rude for an OP to post about a plant they like only to be told it belongs in the bin and they have no taste.
To be fair, unless Punkdoc’s post has been edited, they aren’t saying I have no taste, just that mine and theirs don’t coincide. I love my hot lips, oops what have I just said 🤔, just wish the white would come back.
