bonariensis query

peteSpeteS Posts: 966
A recently bought Verbena bonariensis from my local supermarket. Do you think it could be split in two, or would I get a better display if it was left as it is. It's in a 5" pot and was ridiculously cheap.

    It looks like a single plant to me. With any luck you'll have plenty of self seeded plants next year.

    You could take some cuttings later in the summer.  I did it with the one I bought last year and now I have 6!

    Cuttings are the way to go - you'll get plenty from that, and then you'll have some plants mature enough for next year.  :)

    Should have said - they aren't plants which divide.

    @B3
    Thanks for that B3. Unfortunately when I've grown it in the past it has never self seeded, don't know why as I have heard it can be a prolific self seeder. I think I'll just go and buy a couple more. Will this plant end up flowering this year do you think.

    If you get it planted, it'll flower  :)
    They don't readily seed here either. It depends on your location/climate and the timing of the seed being viable and whether it can cope.

    I didn't get any self-seeded either.  I've just bought a few for the back (3 for a fiver is great).

    It's a bit of a weed here but if it didn't seed everywhere,I'd definitely take cuttings😊
    It should flower this year. Put it somewhere sunny. Most of mine seeds in the east facing side of the garden.

    I wish i could send all the seedlings i have in my garden to those who would like, they are a pain in the proverbial 🙄

    @floralies...by the sound of it I'm glad the ones I've had in the past have never self seeded.
