ARGH - A rat!

    On various threads, people demo'd how to attach trays or large plant saucers under feeders to catch the bits. Just add small holes to allow rain to drain out. But it won't help if rats are scaling the pole.

    I guess you now have some options to explore to solve your problem.

    I had a reoccurring problem with rats eating bird food that had been scattered from hanging bird feeders. After trying all kinds of squirrel/rat proof feeders I bought a ground feeding tray and put it in a large cat litter tray on the ground. Every night I bring the tray inside and sweep up any seed that managed to fall outside of the tray, which is minimal.
    Not had one rat for 2 years now.
