Us too. The previous owners grew Fuchsias and so fed the dratted things.
Having said that, the Auriculas and Saxes I planted out because I got fed up of the bugs, seem to have mostly survive

Are Vine Weevil encouraged by Fuschias then? I didn't know that.

@LisaJ My first experience with vine weevils was in a potted hardy fuchsia - it wasn't showing any signs of spring growth so I tipped it out and found the pot full of weevil grubs. So far, my five Heucheras and Tiarella are all OK (the two in pots have been gritted following @TheGreenMan's advice). I have not replaced the fuschia, and have all fingers crossed!

My first experience was also with fuchsia.  I then found them in a hydrangea pot.

Fingers crossed, since applying the grit I've not lost any of the usual suspects.  I have two epimedium which are visited nightly by the adults but, so far, no issues with grubs.

I spotted the first vine weevil of this season yesterday on a rose leaf. Even though I disposed it off I am sure lots of his/her friends are lurking underneath in the pots. I am going to try nematodes this year. I have bought a bag of grit intending to add as top layer in the pot; haven't yet done that. :s

I hate the dratted things too. They trash my primroses and impatiens. I love fushsia too! Ive got strulch on most of my beds and pots, hopefully that helps. Got nematodes too.

About the only plants I have never seen the grubs in are Dianthus.
  • Hello, when you talk of using grit to prevent vine weevils, is the grit added to the soil or as a top dressing

@sonnieb398lbybT_u Welcome you would use it as a top dressing.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

As a top dressing.  I put a layer right across the top of the pot getting as close to the stem of the plant as possible.

Apparently they don't like laying their eggs on the grit as it is "uncomfortable" :D
