Late summer/autumn interest to replace alliums

    @puschkinia I don't think either the Verbascums or the Nerines will like competition. Nerine bulbs like to feel the heat of the sun to flower. I also grow Salvia Caradonna, the stems are  beautiful and upright. Agree with other comments you need a wider border to extend the season.
    You could take out some of the Erigeron but that would be a shame and since it will flower all summer counter productive.
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    Echinops is a good call @Balgay.Hill, would thrive in the same conditions as the Erigeron

    I think Verbena bonariensis was a good call, you want something that will grow up through the Erigeron, and will not either smother it, or be smothered by it. So that means a vertical sort of plant without big basal leaves.

    I love verbena and echinops. I'll go with those I think. I'll widen the border to fit them in - a great opportunity to remove more of our weedy lawn, or, "wildflower meadow" 😉
