Identifying seedlings

Hi all, I've sown beef tomatoes and also some hot chillis demon red but the seedlings look exactly the same, even the new leaves. I've tried smelling them but there's not really much of a scent. Ia there any way of telling them apart now or should I wait until they're bigger and more obvious? I'm growing indoors at the moment near a sunny patio door but I was hoping to be able to acclimatise the tomatoes this week. Can I put what I believe to be the chillis through the same process or will it kill them off?

When the true leaves appear they should look different. Can you post a picture?

  • Hi, @Dovefromabove I believe the ones on the right to be chilli's. Or at least, those are the ones I'd labelled as chilli's 😕

    Me too.
They also won't be anywhere near big enough to be getting acclimatised this  week - or even next week.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks everyone. Yes, they all look like tomatoes to me. How do I stop them from getting too leggy?

Those all look like tomatoes to me too.

Giving them plenty of light should stop them getting leggy.

  • If I don't get any chillis then it looks as though the pack of seeds I bought may have been tomatoes! The chilli seeds certainly looked the same as the tomato seeds 🤔

Chillis need an early start and a long growing season, so maybe you could treat yourself to a chilli plant from the garden centre. They often sell them with fruits already forming.

As others have said so often we need to label our sowings so that we know what to expect.
