My son bought this home from school

BOTBBOTB Posts: 92
I was given no info on what it is, I did ask another teacher and was told Morning Glory.
So I googled and it’s a trailing plant?.

To grow it, should I put against trellis?

I’m used to being given cress in cotton wool and runner beans to grow on from school 😂

Thanks

It's happier going up rather than down @BOTB

A climber rather than trailing, hence it's desire to get up that cane  ;)
There are various varieties of Ipomoea . I grow a very dark purple one. They're only just germinating. They're not totally hardy, so they need protection until all frosts are finished. A sunny site for them.
Canes are usually fine for them in a pot :)

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

You are now the owner of a fine collection of nice canes if nothing else.

Morning glory. Yes, it was always rampaging over those typically derelict old stone houses in summertime Greece when I was a young thing.

Lovely flowers. Going to need a big trellis. 😊
Can it be tamed and cut back if it goes wild?? Or will that kill it?
  • It looks good against a trellis but also trailing so win, win!

I’m so new to the lingo of gardening. Hence why I had no idea what this plant was 🤣 iI want to move it to a bigger planter with trellis on the back so it reaches a good height

Don't worry it will die as soon as there is a frost.

It could be tricky to untangle and put onto trellis, unless it's just that one stem? You'll just need to be do it carefully.
If it's just the one plant, it won't need a pot much bigger though. It's unlikely to be heading for world domination, so don't worry   :)

I do around 8 or 9 [approx] in a pot of about 15 inches diameter.

Let it grow to the top of the canes then pinch the tops out. It’ll have new flowers every morning but they’ll go over by afternoon so if you can put it somewhere where it doesn’t get full sun early morning the flowers last longer. But it does need sunshine.

It’s a ‘tender annual’ so it can go on the compost heap when the colder autumn weather comes.

    Enjoy 😊

Good job is almost summer then 😁 no chance of a frost until autumn so we can enjoy until then as long as I don’t kill it first
