I haven't planted out any tender veg yet, down here. The weather is still much too changeable, very warm and then decidedly chilly. Another couple of weeks yet after les Saints de Glace.

When you say “hardened off” what do you mean?

Cucumbers have to be kept warm at all times. A minimum temperature (especially important to watch this at night) of 16°C.

Really wish I'd listened to your sage advice @pansyface. Thought I knew better and that my young plant could cope with drops down to 8C   My cucumber has wilted and doesn't look as though it's going to recover. But at the time we were just about to go on holiday and I wanted all my plants together in the greenhouse so my neighbour could easily water them. All the tomatoes, chillies & various bedding plants are fine. I've sown some more cucumber seeds so normal service will be resumed - just a bit later.
    Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
