Cucumbers

Hello I am having problems with my Cucumbers, they are wilting and dying. Same happened last year. Sown indoors, hardened off, grow to approx 12” tied to bamboo, wilted and dying. Really careful with watering. Is it my compost, Verve grow bags used. Any help would be appreciated. Nick

Well, brought on indoors, then taken outdoors daytime, back in night time until until ready to be tied to bamboo in my greenhouse. Protected with polythene every night.

Mmm maybe, however, I did have my cucumbers staked, to avoid movement.

Sounds too cold for them ... mine will be indoors 24/7 for at least the next four weeks.

I sowed my seeds this week, they’ve all germinated but won’t see the outside world until 1st week in June,  then they’ll be in the GH.
Still time to sow some more.

Sorry to read of your problems.
    What variety are you growing?
Will you be growing them on in a greenhouse or outside? Some are much more tolerant of cool conditions, while some are hot house divas.
They all need, not just frost protection, but warmth, especially when the temps drop at night.

    Hello
Carmen, Socrates, Passandra & Saturn. All in my Greenhouse, & where they will stay.
Reading a few responses, looking like a little too early. Too cold. Will sow more today. Thanks for your help.

I haven't even sown mine yet. Once they germinate, they seem to get big very quickly.

Like much else relating to plants it all depends on your individual site and conditions. Weather patterns are both more unpredictable these days as well as being more extreme.
In coastal SW UK, I am growing Beth Alpha (indoors ) and Ridge (outdoors).  Sown on 1 April and germinated on 4 April .
The indoor ones were planted a couple of weeks ago in potato sacks which sit on a South facing soil border in my unheated glass to ground GH   Protected by polystyrene panels against the glass and fleeced over when cold threatens.  Tomatoes also planted out in the same manner.
Not everyone can get away with this timing of course and not every season is the same year on year. It really does come down to experience along with Crossed Fingers  ;)

My cucumbers and tomatoes are all in the greenhouse now. No tomatoes yet but the cucumbers are all ready producing cucumbers about an inch or two long at the moment.

I'm 13 miles of the coast of France so a little warmer here.  :D
