Can someone advise me if this is due to lack of nutrients or too dry please.

Both probably. Is it in a very small space? It's hard to see from that photo, but it looks very tiny.

Hello @Robert120 and welcome to the forum  :)

It could well be a combination of both factors.  Can you tell us about it ... when it was planted, what the soil's like, which way the garden faces, what the feeding and watering regime is etc.  It's also hard to see how much root space it has ... perhaps a photo from further back ...

If you crop the photo just slightly before uploading it to this site it should appear the right way up.   :)

Tiny little space right enough. If the soil wasn't thoroughly prepped and improved, it won't have been suitable for any shrub to thrive unfortunately.
The condition of soil underneath paving is usually poor and compacted,  and not very hospitable for most plants.

  • Thank you for getting back to me. I have three, they are planted so that they grow up pergola posts. They all face east-southeast and have been in for around 18 months. The soil that they are in is quite heavy, but when I planted them I did put quite a bit of organic matter in the holes first. I haven't watered them recently for fear of over watering.

How long ago did you plant them? All plants need frequent, deep watering until well established.
    Is it jasmine?

I know they can look pretty ropey in the early part of the year, but they also aren't hardy everywhere.
