I've saved that Metcheck frost doodah that was mentioned. It isn't accurate either! A couple of days ago, it was stating 100% a frost for last night. By yesterday that had dropped to 40 degrees for air, and 0 degrees for ground. We have both You have to judge it by your conditions, and play safe. If it's down at 2 or 3 degrees at 10pm, it's not likely to suddenly be 5 or 6 at midnight, so it's worth having an outdoor thermometer, and checking at night if you're unsure of what to expect. The length of time temps are low, is more relevant than the temp itself. Just the same as when it's hot or wet.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Tomatoes really are better if the temperature doesn't drop below double figures at night. Having said that, mine will probably have to be out a little before the end of May due to indoor space restrictions and fleeced if a cool night is forecast after that.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Nothing out yet (except my sweet peas because they were getting far too long for their pots and flopping over) but I've put a few tomatoes in the greenhouse. Here in Gloucestershire my greenhouse hasn't fallen below 6 degrees overnight yet since early Feb.
I've got to pot on my tomatoes tomorrow but I really have no room inside and I don't have a greenhouse.i said to my mum I'll just have to sleep with them !honestly...i need more room! whenever I look at houses on rightmove it's always the garden I look at first
It was 3° in my garden last night, according to my outdoor thermometer. It wa certainly very chilly indeed in the evening. Not frosty at all though. Right now it's 10°.

I'm forecast 7-8oC where I am overnight Friday, so all should be ok.
