  • I like Amelanchier but another option if you would like something evergreen could be Arbutus unedo.

    @hogweed is right. I did wonder if you might extend the border for it .
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

  • What about magnolia or mimosa?  
    - no fruit
    - super showy flowers
    - fall color is spectacular

    Some mimosas Have great color even before fall and make nice dappled shade rather than just shade, so may be worth taking in consideration. And then there's wonderful smell.
