Tree recommendations

sking5sking5 Posts: 25
Looking for recommendations for a tree to go in this corner, replacing the dead red robin, but it will be planted more forward and central between the fence and flower bed. Ideally something similar to our neighbours tree in terms of height but with year round interest. It is Westerly facing but gets a lot of shade with the shadow from the house.

Just to confirm are you thinking of an evergreen like a conifer? Do you also plan on extending the border?

    Need more info.
Do you want flowers, if so what colour. Do you want fruit/berries? Do you want autumn colour, or are you looking for an evergreen?

I’d say an amelanchier, good all year interest and come as multi stem or standard

I had also thought of Amelnachier but then realised you wanted interest all year.
Lovely in spring, copper leaves white flowers. Green in summer so that is when you can add some extra colour nearby. Fiery red leaves in autumn. It does have berries but not  a problem.  Can be grown as a tree or multistemmed shrub.

Amelanchiers are always a good bet.  :)
The spindle tree - Euonymus alatus is another. Sorbus - Mountain ash [Rowan] not Whitebeam, is another if your soil is moisture retentive enough. They do best with lots of water.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Amelanchier all the way!
As others have said, year round interest.
Lovely purple black berries in June, mainly devoured by blackbirds so don’t worry about them hanging about on the branches for long, never mind falling to the ground!
White flowers are a bit star shaped and very pretty, from end of March/early April.
Bronze leaves in spring, glorious autumn red before they drop, what’s not to love?

When you plant your new tree be sure to remove a circle or square of grass from around the stem and keep that clear of grass and weeds always.
