  • I have  removed a heaped bucketful of pond plant from my pond and it hardly shows! There is still more than enough plant left, might try removing some more but probably not a bucketful.

Really lovely @TheGreenMan and it will be totally transformed again by next year.  My pond which is exactly 12 months old looks like it’s been there for ever.

  • Brilliant. Well done. You will have so much satisfaction from your pond.

You will soon be pulling out surplus overgrown plants.

    Thanks @CatDouch and @zugenie

I’ve put an extension on their log cabin since I took that picture and got a lot more plants.

Hopefully the local mouse catcher won’t go after them. Plenty of places for them to hide (hopefully).

It might be worth noting that most cats and dogs much prefer to drink pond water than chlorinated water in their indoor bowls.
Some cats seem fascinated by reflections in water and will often paw the water. There are also some enthusiastic fisher cats as well. One used to live next door to my mother. It was always bringing home goldfish as pressies for its Mum. We never did find out where the pond was.
My own cat learned a lesson shortly after I finished building my pond and putting fish in. She stood on a plant pot to reach the fish, the pot tipped and she had her first and only swimming lesson. She came indoors absolutely soaked from head to toe so must have been in the water some time. She still drinks from the edge and watches the fish but never attempts to catch them.
    Lesson learned.
