Oooooooh! How exciting. May I suggest you smooth out the outline of your pond, lots of little nooks and crannies around the edge make fitting the liner really difficult as the liner is not very flexible. You have to end up with lots of pleats and folds in the liner to make it go into the corners.
Every time I have built a pond I have always been amazed at how quickly the wildlife moves in. Usually, pond skaters are the first arrivals, it takes the frogs and newts a bit longer. I have always dug the centre of my ponds out to 4ft. to make sure there is sufficient depth for critters to hibernate and not be affected by extreme cold freezing weather. I have never had to worry about the pond icing over.
I repotted my pygmy water lilies and iris this year. So worthwhile, they are all flowering really well. I had hundreds of tadpoles this year so plenty of frogs for the garden. With the forthcoming heatwave you will be able to christen your pond by having a little splash/swim around it.

I have to stay in this Saturday as we’re having the staircase re-skimmed so I shall dig, dig, dig then. 👍🏼
I will hold you to that! I’m looking forward to seeing how yours turns out!
Other than roads and traffic.
The pond liner arrives tomorrow….
