Snap dragons

Hi

I'm relatively new to gardening and have recently purchased some snap dragons as plugs.  I'm growing them indoors but notice earlier that I accidentally left one outside which seems to be doing very well.  Should I be growing them all outside?
Thanks!

Hi @kvcbf2pqdsqjj0QzCp. There was a recent thread about them, but I can't remember what was said on it. It will largely come down to your climate, and whether it's suitable to have them outside though. We're currently having hail and snow here, so that certainly wouldn't be much good!
If they're just plugs, I think I would be tempted to keep them growing on for a while, and wait until they're in bigger pots of their own, before acclimatising them.  :)

Here's that thread  - so see if there's anything useful there for you  :)

They are pretty hardy. I would acclimatise them before leaving them out at night but maybe not for a few weeks.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

This is an older thread, but might be more useful than that other one

  • I reckon they’ll be fine outside. Also, they’re really easy to grow from seed so I recommend trying if you haven’t before. :)

Should be OK I would guess. I have a couple in the garden that I missed when I pulled last year's up, and they've been in growth for a little while now, despite some very light frosts and a snowfall last week.
  • Thank you for all your responses - it's been really helpful!  I'll get some seeds too!

Its mild here and mine overwintered outside and are budding...

Depends how cold it gets. A whole bed of mine survived the winter this year. So far! Am hardening off new plants now.

Some plug plants are tiny, and they've been grown in warmer, cossetted conditions. It wouldn't be great to put them outdoors permanently at this time of year unless properly acclimatised, regardless of whether they're hardy plants or not.

agree Fairygirl. Mine were Germinating in unheated greenhouse so probably less cosseted than some.
