Oh bother, the very right wing Marine le Pen has done very well in Dordogne.
I'm afraid  " the very right wing " are everywhere these days

Morning all from sunny Christchurch,  but there is a very cold wind so we need to wrap up well. Don't work too hard😉

Fingers crossed Marine le Pen doesn't get in - doesn't bode well for Trump's return in '24 if she does.  Too many of these far rightwingers about.  What good do they do for anyone?
Plans for this morning scuppered.  Early night, set the alarm for an early start and then promptly stayed awake for most of the night.
I'll see what can be rescued from this morning's plans, this afternoon.
Book Club tonight - that's always fun.  (Note to self - don't read the book club book too far ahead of Book Club).

Don't overdo it @didyw ... a restless night always makes me feel tired the next day.

Just can't bear the news at the moment ... we listen to the BBC radio news and the Today programme ... that's enough.

I've got two lots of washing on the line and they're flapping away so much that the clothes props keep tumbling to the ground ... still, no harm done as the lines are quite high and fairly taut, so even the sheets don't reach the grass.

I was going to sow the tomatoes today, but I've discovered that at the weekend , when OH tidied the bags of compost away for me, he put the bag I need for the seeds right on the bottom and there are some really heavy ones on top ... I could drag them off, but it'd make a mess, and as we're going away next week to his mum's I really don't want to strain my back before that drive.  He'll be at home tomorrow for three days, so I've washed the seedtrays and got the propagator ready ... I'll sow them tomorrow.  That gives them a week to germinate and grow a little bit so they're big enough to be ok if I switch the propagator off, and just leave them in there, but not so big that they'll need watering while we're away.

So, as I had a bit more time this morning, I've done some paperwork  o:), poached a couple of pieces of salmon and made a potato salad with lots of fresh chives from the garden, and a coleslaw with cabbage, carrot fennel and apple.   I think I'm going to be popular when OH gets home this evening  ;)

I've just reattached the climbing rose trellis to the wall with a pitchfork and some cable ties... it will do for now! Luckily the rose didn't snap but it did squash an iris in bloom but Parkers have so far Sent 5 of the wrong one so I'm not too bothered! Strong winds here too! @Dovefromabove
Exhausting day..... I'll have to catch up with everyone tomorrow! Dinner needs cooking! Have a good evening folks!

    Good evening all.

Late post - busy day gardening, but good effort paid off.  Cooler here and we are in for some nasty weather but not as nasty as @Obelixx and maybe some in the Dordogne area.  Ah.... spring.  Planted out my 4 courgette plants whose roots were trailing out of the pots.  They are in a tunnel under plastic - outside.  Temperatures clement.

Hope @D0rdogne_Damsel has arrived safely in Nimes.

    Goodnight and sleep tight!

Evening all, been too busy with visitors to post and also got post covid fatigue. Was fine on Friday but probably over did all the pre-visitor preparations. Lost my voice and hearing by Sunday when I at last tested negative, bit surprised by how rough I felt and think my sinuses were to blame.
Weather was really nice and we were able to drive our friends around various very pretty Cotswold villages, including Castle Combe and Marshfield. Then we walked round the garden to show them what improvements and new plants we'd done since they last visited.
Have to say that although we loved having them to stay, I was rather relieved when they left after lunch today and just flopped in my armchair.

Now to get ready for the next visitor - my daughter.

  • Evening all,

Enjoyed a lovely whistle stop tour of Figeac on the way down to Nîmes. Had a lovely meal at a Michelin starred restaurant last evening. Today the wind was very strong driving down, a bit scary, but arrived safely. Drove over the Millau viaduct, where 4 years ago I ran a marathon, so much easier in the car. 😅

This evening, enjoyed a rooftop apéro in my apartment and ate in a lovely Italian restaurant. The service was marvellous, except for a young girl server chewing gum and even blowing bubbles. I had to say something I'm afraid, such a shame because the young male waiters were working so hard and were so professional. I did feel a bit like a grumpy old lady, but it really was unacceptable as far as I was concerned. I did notice the boss having a word with her early in the evening and I saw her raise her eyebrows and shrug her shoulders once his back was turned. I suppose as a restauranteur I'm more critical, but really it didn't look good.

Anyway, food was lovely and I'm feeling very relaxed. Charlie is safely installed with his welcome family, but exhausted, trailed around London all day after a night on a coach/boat/coach. Luckily, no delays.

Best wishes to all, catch up tomorrow after I've visited all the Roman ruins. One tiny fly in the ointment here, to benefit from an apartment with rooftop views, I have to climb 72 steps, no lift and a spiral staircase at that. Ready to fall into bed with my new good book now, The Pillars of the Earth.
