Purple Rain is fabulous isn’t it @Perki? It’s become my favourite and it reliably returns, unlike Atropurpureum which seem to dwindle and disappear.
Yes anything which seems a cross from atropurpureum isn't going to stay around long , I keep growing Miami I get one year out of it then that's it gone . Same with caeruleum a delightful blue flower variety sometimes it doesn't make it to the spring, Schubertii is another one hit wonder.
Purple rain is great it seems to get better and better but It will need dividing eventually very reliable . Globlemaster is very reliable but flowers do get smaller over time when the bulbs need dividing but probably flowers longer than any other variety.
I buy new allium varieties every year I am trying Jackpot - stratos ( improved version of Gladiator ) - Universe - Early Emperor this year . I have a thing for allium
Oh I've had Miami here, huge scented heads, I loved them... gone now, no idea what happened to them, I'm trying to find a picture but that seems to have disappeared too..
Coreopsis 'Moonbeam' and 'Zagreb' have both perplexed me in different gardens.. At Hampton Court flower show I bought 5 'Moonbeam' off Carol Klein, of course she had a fantastic stand and I couldn't resist.. the following year I never saw the plants again.. Zagreb likewise... Coreopsis grandiflora is a harsh brash yellow but flowers for 6 months like a bedding plant.. Then I got this one which sold to me on sight, however I quickly found it was not suited to my garden border, so ended up in a pot, but it's hardy and perennial, if one can stand it.. COREOPSIS Uptick 'Yellow and Red'
Since then I have found another, much more to my liking.. it's an American native and said to prefer moisture and shade.. Mine is in full sun. I fell in love with it, it's everything I think of as 'Tickseed' and loved by insects.. I'm hopeful for this year too, as it should spread.. COREOPSIS rosea 'American Dream'
I think I prefer simple Cornflowers.. I got this one on sight, I had to have it, but then realised I didn't care for it in the garden...
CENTAUREA 'Amethyst in Snow'
I no longer grow Crocosmia 'Lucifer', I've been through 'Zeal Tan' which is a rich orange/red.. the usual Montbretia type masoniorum.. 'Star of the East' recommended by Titchmarsh but it flowers too late for me, now I have this one which I notice is spreading quickly, which is fine.. and I like the colour..
Am I too late to throw in another favourite 'A' that I just remembered? Alchemilla Mollis I love the complementary contrast it creates with dark red colours
I had the opposite problem with Coreopsis Verticillata, I’d ordered ‘Zagreb’ but got the plain verticillata. The mother plant got invasive and it self seeded absolutely everywhere. I got rid but the occasional seedling still pops up.
My favourite crocosmia is Emily McKensie, beautiful bronzy/orange tones and large flowers that glow, in late afternoon sun here:
No photos but Calamintha Nepeta/Catmint is another stalwart in the garden, so undemanding. I love it with pink roses.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Calamagrostis 'Karl Foerster'. It's a neat upright grass to about 5ft in height, so you can use it as a 'room divider' as in this scheme we planted last year.

This is one plant a seedling from the original. I'll move it this year and bunch them all together .
