I think there’s a strong possibility they’ve overwintered as grubs in your citrus pots, munching on their roots … now they’re transmogrifying into adults … they’re nocturnal and can’t fly so they’re climbing and looking for somewhere to hide until darkness falls  … I’d check the roots of your citrus 😡

  • The exact name is in the this year April edition of Gardeners World magazine. I gave my one to the landlord of our local pub, but if you have one, there is a picture and name in the Q&A section.

I pulled up the lime that has had leaves nibbled this morning. Plenty of roots and no sign of any grubs. Just a few woodlice. Are they likely to have disposed of the vine weevil grubs? :)

It's in fresh citrus compost and has been quarantined in my office  ;)

    Phew!
Wouldnt it be nice if woodlice were that helpful 😃

But now I'm thinking that the vine weevils are inhabiting one of the adjacent citrus plants d-fab :o The lemon has just got its first bud so I'd be gutted if that just keeled over!

Just noticed a few leaf nibbles on another plant in the back porch. There's 3 left in there and it looks like I'll end up re-potting them as well.

They must be coming from somewhere …

Yes d-fab. Can't imagine that I've exterminated the entire population of 2 ;) There's more lurkers and grubs galore knocking around I'll wager.

Doesn't look like my lemon is suffering yet - first sign of life since I got it 15 months ago :)
