My roses are almost done with their first flush. Yesterday's windy weather has shattered many of the flowers and the entire area around the rose plants is carpeted with the petals. Some have withstood the winds well. Peace? Unlabelled HT. Louis de Funes

i look and admire every photo you post, and learn a lot! i especially like to look at your garden images, it is thrilling to get an idea of possible combinations of colour and form!
here the heat and drought have already started to take their toll, but some roses have managed to produce a second flush, albeit with smaller blooms.
Polka, very soft colours, proving to be very heat resistant, i don't know if you have it, @Nollie, but it's worth a try.
Munstead Wood, full of blooms, even if some are small and somewhat strangely shaped.Â
Purple Lodge gets burned easily
Darlow's Enigma still blooming without pause, i find it incredible!
Penny Lane also producing many blooms for the first year, and now they are much prettier than the early ones:
and my still unidentified white one, newly purchased under the name of Madame Alfred Carrière, yet there are many opinions that it's not her
and I love this eryngium, drought resistant as well! the blue-yellow combination happened by chance. Even the bugs dressed in yellow😅
Todays bloomers Nostalgia Harry wheatcroft Lady marmalade first bloom this year, always a bit slower. Lady emma hamilton First bloom on new summer song Rosa des cistertiens, starting to get pinker now Bring me sunshine. Very healthy for me (the greyish blots on leaves is dust kicked up from rain not mildew)
@Nollie...I was becoming quite enthused about your early description of La R de M, but then you mentioned the rain issue and all that excitement quickly vanished. The one thing we're not short of in my part of the world is rain, which is a pity because it is a beautiful rose.
Marketing exaggerations aside, I do find fragrance descriptions useful since my rose nose is still on a big learning curve. I’ve usually forgotten the notes by the time a new rose has bloomed so I see what it smells like to me then check what they say. Rose de Rescht is my ‘damask’ yardstick, which to me is totally different to the ‘classic rose’ of, say, Gertrude Jekyll.
Yeah I can see that would be a deal breaker for you @peteS. You can tease the blooms open and pick off the outer petals, which helps. I just pray to the rain gods to hold their fire when it’s in bloom!
Loving the garden photos and all those soft orange and apricot roses - CPM, Judy D, Nataljia, Grace, Polka etc. Normally strong colours are much paler for me, the hotter the softer. A few signs of life creeping back so here are a few of my softies..
