I think the biggest problem is the people who write these articles about animals and toxic plants. They may be written with some basic truth but often the quantity of plant material the animal would have to eat is just unrealistic and the odd nibble here and there does very little. People love their pets and can get really paranoid about them but I bet her cats meet most of the plants on the list when out and about.

I have just planted a beautiful Euonymus. My neighbour has 4 cats and paranoid and anxious about toxic plants. She moaning about my shrub now. I am a cat lover and I have a 13 year old cat lives with my mum.
Cats are intuitive and intelligent; they know of dangerous plants but she is going on about one of her cats who tests everything and she’s worried. Is there a plant that’s similar to mine that is also non toxic that I can claim mine is ? Because her behaviour is quite extreme - she also complaining about my daffodils and my tulips - I have given away the tulips which were in a pot to my sister. I think she will try and kill my plants !
Please help.
I'm a fairly tolerant bloke but I'm afraid in this case my altruism would be sorely tested. In fact I think she is a bit unhinged..and I'm being polite. Tell her to keep her bl==dy cats out of your garden and you'll plant what the hell you like.
A classic case of " I want pet X and YOU have to deal with the consequences" be it cat crap, the psychopathic slaughter of wildlife, the endless barking of dogs etc etc Why are SOME pet owners so bleedin' selfish?
Hello Hosta I guess because some people are just horrible/thoughtless. When I saw your name, thought you were claiming your cash! Apple pips contain cyanide, are actually poisonous to people as well. I had a long haired collie who used to eat our apple cores. Brother in law's staffie ate various boxes and bars of chocolate and didn't even vomit!
My older daughter always ate the apple cores including pips, and she ate a lot of them when she was little. She's still here. I agree with @Chris-P-Bacon. The neighbour clearly has a problem of some kind and you're the easy target @fareenaism. Don't let her bully you. You may find that if things escalate, it might be worth getting a camera, and taking notes of any dubious behaviour. It might seem extreme, but some people can get beyond ridiculous with their behaviour, and you bear the brunt.
You shouldn't feel vulnerable in your own garden.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
There are probably as many types of selfishness as there are of tolerance and forgiveness. We human beings live so close together that we are bound to irritate each other even when we believe we are entirely reasonable.
As I grow older, I am attempting to contain my own impatience and selfishness in order to allow for others to live their own lives in harmony and peace, next to mine. It isn't always easy (!!!) but I think it's worth the effort.
@fareenaism, you seem to be hoping that your neighbour Is still a friend and it seems to me she is creating this problem so she isnt. Why you will probably never find out, there is nothing as difficult as some people. Using poison on your plants would be extreme especially if her cats can get to it so I dont think she would do that. If you can accept that she is not as friendly as she was and leave it at that and keep to your side of the fence It will be less stressful for you. Or if she is that worried she could buy a RSPB cat deterrent, (mine was about£70 and it works!) and tell her you would put it in your garden for her cats to be kept away, Just in case, the never heard of before, cats were eating toxic plants. Valerie
Generally cats have more sense , except when it comes to antifreeze in milk. Our dog used to eat chocolate, ate all my grandpas stash once as a puppy. If it had been one of the grandchildren he would have raised merry hell, as it was, it was only the puppy so she got away with it. Special doggy chocs she wasn't keen on. We ate more than she did. A friends dog ate the xmas cake. We called her Maggie the dustbin (the beagle, not the friend. ) Apart from the very swollen belly, followed a day later by a violent purging, she defied all those that said dogs can't have dried fruit. If she went missing she was usually found outside the butchers shop. Both dogs died of old age, not what they ate.
Cats will eat grass if they have an upset stomach ( or worms), but generally prefer prawns. If she doesn't like whats in your garden, she should keep the cat in.
