I'd say it's quite a common variety actually. It suits many people, which is the reason it's readily available in GCs etc . There are literally hundreds of varieties which will grow well in shadier aspects though. The pastel ones [which I don't like] are always good in shade, and many of the whites because they stand out. It's just a question of checking the good suppliers and picking what suits the space, especially if it's for a pot. Many of the early ones -alpinas etc, are particularly good as they don't mind being drier. I have mine in raised beds, right up against the fences, and with other planting, to help with that
