My OH cuts the grass, strims the edges, cuts the hedges. Without him I definitely couldn’t stay here, so I suppose I’m lucky than most.
I can only do half a day now, I used to be up and out and forget what the time was, now I can’t do that much. But it’s that much that it needs to keep it in check.

Maybe you could just accept that one or two areas will be wild and just cultivate a patch the size you can manage. My garden isn't that big but it's quite big for London. I only properly cultivate about two thirds. The rest doesn't get much attention apart from the odd bit of gentle weeding. Deep rooted weeds just sliced get off at ground level. I think you're doing well to manage half a day. I certainly couldn't manage that! @Lyn
In this part of the world you often just have to cut it regardless of how wet it is. Apart from a couple of patches I re sowed last year, there isn't anything long enough to cut, despite the warm winter.
Every time I see the title of this thread, I just picture ol' Mick giving it big licks. #I can't get no...motivation....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Can’t usually cut ours until mid to end of March, too wet as well. OH usually does it all over 2 days. I think I may have to resort to weed killer, as much as I hate it, don’t even think it works that well, I’ve used it before on ground elder and creeping buttercups, works for 1st year but back next, I spend hours now digging it out.
The problem with leaving wildlife areas is that they will grow bramble, ground elder, hog weed, thistle, all coming in from the fields. They would soon spread everywhere if I didn’t try to get rid of some of it.
