I was just doing a stock check in the food store and found two tins of peaches that are only 6 months past the best before date. Out of date tinned fruit is like a childhood treat I hope we have some rock hard freezer burnt ice cream to go with it and it will be just like tea at my gran's house.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Sounds lovely @wild edges .Reminds me of my childhood
One of those threads about compost @pansyface. I'm reminded of the late great Ronnie B's character in Porridge, and his frequent description ' a charmless nurk'.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I'm glad I'm not the only one @Lyn. Total waste of space.
We give our dogs and cats regular tick and flea preventive treatments @Liriodendron but Rasta still gets the odd tick on her face when she goes nosing too far into undergrowth and then we have to spray the blighter. None on us so far but I wonder why we can't have a human form of the whatever it is for cats and dogs.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Definitely skip the meeting, @pansyface A frank discussion with OH? Does he actually want to go and meet with them? Or just feel he ought to? Given the amount of travelling these people are doing, it would seem perfectly reasonable to suggest to them that they make a trip to near you, staying in a hotel if need be. That would mean that OH , and you, if you feel up to it, can meet at a suitable venue ( outdoor or well ventilated) for a meal, and then they can go on their way. Valid reasons are that you aren’t comfortable travelling at the moment ( they obviously are), it’s not fair to expose OH to the journey and risks associated with that, and then the knock on effect of him potentially bringing bugs back to you. ( they have a limited future at their age, so getting it cut short is less of a blow than it would be to you and OH) You could also make the point that they are prepared to take risks for financial gain, you feel that your health is of more importance than money ( especially as it isn’t yours!) Also valid that Edinburgh in peak holiday season is even less safe than usual, and accommodation expensive and hard to come by.
Forgot about the Edinburgh festival @Fairygirl. @pansyface, all good arguments put forward by @Ergates . Make them come to somewhere near you, if they must see your OH.
Haven't had a tumble dryer for 40 years @B3. Paper tissue messes just get a good shaking outdoors and a second wash if needs be to get the teeny bits off dark stuff.

There's something very unpleasant about ticks - I get lots of insect bites but at least midges etc have the common decency to fly away once they've had their meal... DEET is supposed to be effective against them, but you'd need to cover all exposed skin with repellent, and your legs under your trousers, and arms under sleeves, to be reasonably sure of keeping ticks at bay. Agreed, @Obelixx. A human version of the animal flea/tick treatments would be very welcome. And - @Fairygirl - the first tick I ever encountered was in western Scotland. Similar climate to here, I expect.
(I also need a good magnifying glass to see them properly so I can remove them - but that's a different problem...)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

They're expecting a surge in ticks here @Liriodendron. There was an article recently in our news about the problem with the rise in temps/climate change etc.

If that happened when we had a tumble dryer, that would sort it. But remember to clean the filter.
its what the @ sign is for!
