    The programme lost all credibility when they stated "two thirds of British homes have off road parking"

    Bencotto, sending love and good wishes to you and your wife (got my second scan tomorrow, dreading it!) I know exactly what you mean (and I worked for the NHS for Many years) Hubby had a very large kidney stone,stuck. They couldn't operate because his blood pressure was so high (perhaps you know that this is one of the kidneys function) so they installed a stent instead,still involving a GA. At home,he's in such pain,passing blood,I am "borrowing", disposable urine bottles from work. After a couple of weeks,I rang the urology ward,as per his discharge letter, for advice. Person answering the phone didn't identify herself,was really rude, told us to ring surgery. He received 3 phone calls over the next few weeks from "bed state" cancelling. I rang the ward, I knew someone who worked on there. "Hello darling,no his bed isn't cancelled, we're expecting him in today, NBM for his operation". Imagine if I hadn't rung. Was also told by Bed Manager to go and speak to Ward Manager (old skool) she hit the roof when she saw my hubby, said how long has this been going on (he could hardly walk) a month. She put him straight into diazepam, told me to stay,and let me take him to the theatre. "Why didn't you ring the ward?". I did!!! I had a similar scenario in May, after being put into the 2 weeks emergency cancer pathway, attempted to speak to hospital and surgery,and obviously I at least know my way around,so to speak. Neighbour, sensible intelligent man in his late 50s,assures us, the running life of the car battery after charging is nothing like what is claimed. He does a 40 mile round trip to and from work, not much else,and the weight requires more frequent new tyres .My son now has my 15 years old Astra. We went down to one car last year. Hubby 40 years in the motor trade said he would have gone for a diesel,far more MPG, but it's unlikely we would do enough miles to keep engine clean (he did use technology terms) we went for petrol.

    and what do we do with all the batteries when they die?

    The same thing we do with all batteries. Recycle them.

    @BenCotto it could just be another NHS screw up.  My wife was in A&E on Saturday evening where she did receive great treatment, but after being taken up to the ward she was taken back down for x-ray.  When they got her to x-ray the porters were told they had been done, it was just the records not updated and to take her back.  Her notes on the systems had still not been updated by Sunday late afternoon so staff were asking her why she was there.  I would have thought the big cast on her leg might be a bit of a clue.

    I thought that too @Hostafan1.  Interesting programme all the same.  There was also a programme on an hour earlier about the history of electric vehicles and the challenges of today.
    At least on the BBC programme they were making it very clear that most of those actually involved in the EV industry don't believe the targets are achievable.  The only person who seemed to have their head in the sand was the chairman of that environmental committee.  He was doing everything short of putting his fingers in his ears and la-la-la ing when he didn't want to give a meaningful answer.

    I’m very sorry to hear about your troubles, ben cotto. Very stressful and worrying.

    But it’s not just the NHS that cocks things up. These days, with one click of a mouse or one swipe of a finger, as opposed to having to sit down and compose a letter and put it into the post, all sorts of things can go wrong.

    I have recently been involved in lengthy email communication with a company that sells life insurance. They wrote and said that as my husband was wanting to take out two large life insurance policies in my name, could I please supply them with my medical records.

    You can imagine all the bells that that set off in my head.

    It was only after many emails and my threatening them with the Data Protection Act that they admitted that they had the wrong person. Same name (almost), same email address (to within a letter), same D.O.B.

    I just now worry about this other woman and why her OH is doing this.

    @pansyface!!! @mrmuscle would NEVER!!!!! Would he?!?!?! 😳

    I just went upstairs for five minutes and the dog snuck into my office and took a crap under my desk. :s  He doesn't even fit under my desk so I can't work out how he managed it. Luckily my wife caught him sneaking out looking guilty so warned me he'd been up to something otherwise I might have sat back down without finding it. Obviously the smell was a giveaway but even then it was the last place I checked.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Ugh!! That's why I don't have a dog.

    Almost almost wish I hadn’t looked at this thread today. So sorry for all of you having to put up with such a load of stupidity. What happened to manners and common sense, let alone empathy with patients. Just coming up to the 1st August, used to get warned not to get admitted to hospital around then, as you would be at the mercy of junior doctors starting their first rotation on the wards. In the ‘old days’, at least there would be plenty of experienced nurses to keep an eye on them and provide useful advice. Not the case now.
