  • I've heard of out of date food still being offered for sale in some places, BUT THIS FAR!!!?

I questioned a member of staff, who had no idea, but admitted it looked too fresh to be so far out of date!!

Another staff member said "Oh that's easy, it's Sunday,"

I'm none the wiser - but I bought it.

interesting feature on Ch4 news about water.
Since privitisation, water companies have paid their shareholders £72,000,000,000 in dividends and between them , on average, there are 824 incidents of raw sewage dischange  EVERY SINGLE DAY.

On a positive note, they hadn't thrown bags out just because they were out of date.

Nope. The whole batch was the same. I checked.
You can tell I don't go food shopping often. 😁

What a clever cabbage. Not only does it last for years, it can also talk:

”I’ll keep fresher for longer if you keep me ….”

When I was going to post this, I wasn't sure whether to do so here, or in the SENSE OF HUMUS thread.
I'm still not sure which one would have been better!

    Maybe it's a long-life cabbage and the date is 20th July🤔
    In London. Keen but lazy.

It's a code number used to identify/denote certain things.  :)
You can tell my daughters work in supermarkets can't you?

Bit misleading though as it looks like a year, or day/month, but as they're doing away with the sell by/use by/best before thing, you only have to look at the item and realise it would need to be made of plastic if it was still looking like that 16 years on... ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

It certainly is misleading - especially as it's under the "best before".
I can understand supermarkets doing away with the best before date, particularly when it's fresh(ish) veg. The code number thing might explain why the second member of staff said it was Sunday. If that is the case, why don't they simply say that, instead of confusing us public?!!

Thank you for the explanation, @Fairygirl
